Our Guest Artist for the months of March and April is Rose Lewis
from Minnesota. Rose has a wonderful sense of composition and her
subject matter, frequently mid-century advertising and lifestyles,
are a perfect match. It was great fun to go through the box of artwork
when it arrived. Everyone had a different favorite around here.
Rose
writes:
I
live in Oakdale, MN with my husband Joe. He loves to help me out
by cutting and sanding the wood blocks needed to mount my many rubber
stamps (yes, I still do it the old-fashioned way on wood with homemade
sticker on top for indexing). He also gives me many helpful suggestions
and sometimes even a great quote. My four wonderful children also
love art and are involved in drawing, painting, graphic arts and
photography.
Since
I can remember I have always been involved in some form of arts
and crafts. When eight years old I was pictured in the newspaper
doing paper mosaics. For the past twelve years rubber stamping and
paper crafts have been my passion. I can never get myself to to
purchase a card-- it must be made especially with the recipient
well in mind. I also love to give theme parties and will create
the invitations, menu, wine list, games and decorations for the
event.
I
especially enjoy incorporating retro (baby boomer) images into my
work with rubber stamps and found images. The graphics from yesteryear
remind me of a quieter, simpler way of life and depict things in
a fun kind of way. I like to make cards that have a movement to
them or have cheerful "stuff" attached or bring a fun
thought to mind.
